What YOU WILL ACHIEVE
As the Safety & Wellbeing Systems and Operations Specialist, you will be responsible for providing systems management and operational support across David Jones. This role supports the effective implementation and continuous improvement of a high performing safety and wellbeing safety management system (SWSMS), where practicable, aligned to ISO 45001:2018. This role also supports operational needs as required by providing in-person support to stores and support centres across AU/NZ.
Reporting to the National Safety and Wellbeing Manager and a dotted line to the Head of Safety and Wellbeing, you will be working closely with Safety and Wellbeing, Store Leaders, People and Culture, Employees Relations, and external stakeholders. You will help lead and support the successful implementation of the SWSMS and coach and mentor David Jones operational teams to provide a maintain a safe workplace.
What YOUR DAY LOOKS LIKE
In this role, you will monitor and analyse safety performance across stores, warehouses, and support offices — reviewing incident reports, identifying hazards, and tracking key risk trends. You will partner closely with store and operations leaders to conduct safety walk-throughs and inspections, risk assessments, and reviews of manual handling, equipment, and workplace design to ensure compliance with AS/NZ WHS legislation and codes of practice.
The role also focuses on developing and embedding a positive safety and wellbeing culture through systems management, training delivery, and stakeholder engagement. This includes maintaining and improving the David Jones SWSMS, delivering training on topics such as manual handling, psychosocial risks, and emergency procedures, and supporting initiatives that promote both physical and psychological wellbeing. You will prepare regular safety reports for leadership, provide expert advice on operational changes or new equipment, and ensure that all practices reflect current AS/NZ work health and safety requirements across relevant jurisdictions.
- Provide support to continued business operations across various sites across all trading days in the event of a business disruption.
- Support and assist the implementation of the David Jones Safety and Wellbeing plan.
- Provide timely and effective Safety and Wellbeing support and/or advice to David Jones managers and Team Members.
- Support and lead Safety and Wellbeing training using both in-person and online facilitation mediums.
- Support and conduct Safety and Wellbeing audits to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.
- Develop and maintain SWSMS in line with legal and regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
- Analyse data, identify trends, and provide reports to management with recommendations for improvement.
- Assist in the identification and facilitation of strategies and programs to mitigate claims and improve the safety performance
- Proactively engage, coach and mentor Managers, Supervisors and Team Members in all areas of Safety and Wellbeing.
- Manage document control management.
- Lead the ongoing compliance management of all David Jones Safety and Wellbeing policies and procedures, work method statements, contractor management system.
- Respond promptly as required to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders such as regulators
- Support and respond to critical incidents as required
- Assist in incident investigations relating to workplace injuries
- Assist with non-work-related injuries as required
- Assist in Safety and Wellbeing projects and initiatives.
- Participate in Crisis Management Team (CMT) scenario engagements as required.
What YOU’LL NEED TO THRIVE
- Strong experience in a similar role
- ISO 45001 / AS4024 certification experience desirable
- Current driver’s licence
- Ability to work autonomously
- Ability to work in a team environment
