The opportunity 

In-line with delivering its Vision 2025 + strategy, David Jones is currently in the middle of a multi-faceted and organisational wide transformation. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join our Omni-Channel Store Planning team as a Store Designer.

The role will drive and deliver inspiring designs and coordination between David Jones and our Brand Partners, playing a key part in the space optimisation and conceptualisation of David Jones Stores whilst finding the right balance between design and environmental impact to ensure that everything we do sets the benchmark for excellence.

With a hybrid mix of time at home, stores as well as our corporate office, this role will provide a strong creative relationship with our internal and external key stakeholders. This role ensures strong collaboration and co-ordination with branded partners on all design and documentation packages, that drives creative and quality execution within the David Jones network of stores.

What does the role involve?

  • Detail and produce high quality documentation packages and schedules for all build stages, such as control plans, tender documentation and construction documentation.
  • Detail and document brand packs for our brand partners and vendors.
  • Continue to refine existing fixture suite and design new fixtures to suit the changing needs of the business.
  • Develop and maintain standard details and library of fixtures and finishes.
  • Work collaboratively with the store concept team, ensure brand representation and the David Jones concept are well documented.
  • Coordinate and manage the sign-off of branded installation designs.
  • Ensure that all branded installations are delivered in accordance with David Jones standards, guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Manage and maintain master program for all project documentation, with a proven ability to prioritise accordingly.
  • Collaborate with external agencies for documentation, with proven experience in coordinating and managing RFI registers with external consultants.
  • Liaise with brand contractors and Project Manager to ensure relevant services are coordinated as per approved design proposal.
  • Maintain clear, effective and productive communication with all members of the design team relating to optimum design objectives and outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with internal functions such as Merch, Space Planning, Store Projects, Construction and Concepts to coordinate various functions within the plan.
  • Maintain a clear observation over design aspects of new fixtures, to best suit the businesses needs and maximise the opportunity for sales.

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate who’ll THRIVE in the role will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of Retail Design and Architectural principals, planning and current construction methods
  • Have excellent time management and problem-solving skills
  • Have strong proficiency in CAD and Revit
  • Have proficiency in BCA & DDA standards
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to engage with a range of key stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Proven team working experience as well as the ability to work independently on tasks
